Phlex Tek Applications & Industry

3D Printing

UV / EB systems materials commonly used are acrylates, methacrylates and cycloaliphatic epoxides. The combined offering of cycloaliphatic epoxy and TPO provides Phlex Tek greater leverage and exposure with formulators in the 3D Printing space.  Phlex Tek offers TPO photoinitiator for UV and LED cured systems as well as cycloaliphatic epoxy for cationic cure.

Composites

Pultrusion, spun-wound and standard thermoset type applications are areas where the Phlex Tek resin portfolio offer increased line speeds, toughness, durability and advanced/unique curing parameters. Glass and basalt fiber reinforced epoxy and Phlex Tek cycloaliphatic epoxy spun-wound pipe for oil and gas exploration are typical applications for cationic cured systems. Phlex Tek TPO is a photo-initiator of choice in pultrusion formed composites.

Coatings & Inks

In the coatings sector Phlex Tek focuses on applications where phenoxy and cycloaliphatic epoxy resins offer superior performance characteristics such as excellent adhesion, toughness, flexibility and chemical resistance. Coating applications include direct-to-metal, such as automotive underbody, maintenance and marine, glass and metal packaging, heat-cured coatings and laminates, and powder coatings.

Adhesives & Sealants

The phenoxy resin is an excellent adhesive/tie layer between multi-layer composites such as automotive headliners, food packaging films, graphic art substrates, laminated non-wovens, and other laminated substrates. Structural adhesives are enhanced and strengthened by the phenoxy resin as it acts as both an adhesion promotor and flexibilizer in rigid epoxy and epoxy-urethane systems. The presence of phenoxy reduces stress cracks and increases bond strength between substrates.
